Madara said as he instantly appeared from Konoha to Suna in the blink of an eye.

It's just a pile of sand. Although, I will not deny the fact that they have churned out many talented ninja's such as the infamous puppet master family and the sand siblings, they're ninjas are basically in most ways, expendable. No wonder their economy's in the gutter.

Even though Madara said that, it was only from a strategic point of view, he liked the sand village actually, people were generally nice. Although his definition of nice may be a bit warped.
